Joined OHPA in 1993 Dr. Alsentzer received her Bachelor's degree as a Harold Sterling Honor Scholar in nursing from Vanderbilt University in 1983 and her Medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1987 where she graduated Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed a pediatric residency at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 1990 and served as director of the Vanderbilt Pediatric Clinic Acute Clinic until 1993. Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Alsentzer also holds certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Alsentzer has also taught in a national medical pediatric board review course and coordinated the pediatric program for Trevecca University's physician assistant program. She is the recipient of the prestigious Janet M. Glaucoma Memorial Award and is preceptor for Vanderbilt medical students. She is married and has three children. She is an avid Vanderbilt sports fan and enjoys working on computers. "What I love most about working with kids is that they're just so funny and refreshingly honest."
Joined OHPA in 1996 Dr Brady attended Vanderbilt University where she graduated summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Mathematics in 1988. She received her Medical degree in 1992 from Vanderbilt University and completed her residency at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in 1995. She served as Chief Resident from 1995-96. She completed an internship in pediatrics at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville SC. Dr. Brady is Board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She also serves as a clinical professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. A native of Memphis, Dr Brady enjoys gardening, cooking, hiking, church activities and spending time with her spunky Golden Retriever. "I enjoy taking care of sick and healthy children and counseling parents about raising happy and healthy families."
Joined OHPA in 2003 In 1992, Dr. Betts graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University with two degrees: a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Following four years of service in the Air Force as a commissioned officer at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, he graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in June 2003. Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Betts has been working with physicians at Old Harding Pediatrics since July 2001 before becoming a permanent part of the practice in July 2003. In addition, he currently serves as the chairman for the Department of Pediatrics at Baptist Hospital. Dr. Betts and his wife Holly have three children: Joshua, Katherine, and Caroline. Dr. Betts serves as a deacon in his church and has also ministered in orphanages in Sudan and Honduras over the past several years. He enjoys coaching soccer at Harpeth Youth Soccer Association, running, hiking, camping and family time. "I chose pediatrics because, after having my first child while in medical school, God gave me a heart for children and a desire to care for them."
Joined OHPA in 1992 Dr. Heil received his Bachelor's degree in biology from Stanford University and his Medical degree from Vanderbilt University where he completed his residency and served as chief resident. Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Heil is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Christian Medical Dental Association. He received the Amos Christie Award for Excellence in Pediatrics, the Housestaff Clinical Teaching Award and accepted membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr Heil has a special interest in internationally adopted patients and has received local and national honors for his efforts in this area. A native of Iowa, Dr. Heil is married and has three children. He enjoys hiking and scouting. "I chose pediatrics because children bring me great energy and joy."
Joined OHPA in 2008 Dr. Keffer received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University in 1994 and his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine in 2001. He completed his internal medicine internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham and his internal medicine-pediatrics residency at the University of Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. Dr. Keffer previously practiced medicine with Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, Vanderbilt Medical Group, Vanderbilt Children's Hospital Emergency Department and Williamson Medical Center. Dr. Keffer is married with 3 children. He enjoys music, running and family activities. "I want families to feel that their concerns are addressed in a competent, compassionate fashion, and that our attention is focused on the best interest of the child."
Joined OHPA in 2005 Dr. Long received his undergraduate degree at Duke University in 1998 and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed his residency in 2005 at University of Cincinnati Children's Hospital. In 2002, he was presented the prestigious Amos Christie Award at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for Excellence in pediatrics, the Vanderbilt Hospital Award for Excellence and the Canby Robison Society Ideal Physician Award. He is married with three children and enjoys playing guitar, reading classics, running and participation in his church. Dr. Long is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. "I thought about pursuing a career in internal medicine but I just couldn't resist the appeal of working with the optimistic and resilient nature of kids."
Joined OHPA in 1977 Dr. Long received his Bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University and his Medical degree from the University of Kentucky School of Medicine. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where he was chief resident. He is an eleven-time recipient of the prestigious James C. Overall Award from the Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University. Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Long is a diplomate of the American Pediatric Society and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also is a member of the Davidson County Pediatric Society and Medical Society as well as the Nashville Academy of Medicine, the Tennessee Pediatric Society and Tennessee Medical Association. A native of Louisville, Dr. Long has been active in community organizations, including the Davidson County American Cancer Society and the Robertson Association. He is married and has three children and seven grandchilren. "Even after 35 years of practicing medicine with Old Harding, the joy of personal involvement with patients never grows old."
Joined OHPA in 1998 Dr. Chris Patton received his Bachelor's degree from New College of the University of South Florida and his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in 1994. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. After completing pediatrics he spent an extra year of training in dermatology at Vanderbilt University. Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Patton also holds certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Tennessee Pediatrics Society and Tennessee Medical Association. He has been the recipient of the prestigious Robert C. Boerth Award, David Karzon Award and the Excellence in Student Teaching Award in pediatrics. A native of Nashville, he is married and has three children. Dr. Patton enjoys swimming, hiking and mountain biking. "I love the 'ministry' of taking care of families and being a steward of the most precious resource in the world: our children."
Joined OHPA in 2000 Dr. Ragsdale received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame in its Science Preprofessional-Business Collegiate Sequence and her Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee, Memphis in 1997. She completed her internship and residency at the University of Tennessee-Memphis in June of 2000. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a native of Nashville and enjoys running, church activities and watching her kids play sports. Dr. Ragsdale is married and is the mother of one daughter and four sons. Dr. Ragsdale is a Board Certified Pediatrician. "As a mother of five, I empathize with families who find life to be sometimes stressful. My goal is to provide the guidance and reassurance that puts families at ease."
Joined OHPA in 1997 Dr. Chris Smeltzer received a Bachelor's degree from Baylor University and his Medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He also completed his residency at Vanderbilt University where he was Chief Resident of Pediatrics. While at Vanderbilt, Dr. Smeltzer received the prestigious Joe M. Strayhorn Award as well as the Robert C. Boerth Award. Dr. Smeltzer is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Amos Christie Society. As a participant in Vanderbilt's Community Continuity Clinic Program, Dr. Smeltzer has trained and worked closely with the physicians at Old Harding Pediatrics since 1994. He has a particular interest in asthma, allergy and international adoption. A native of Texas, he is married and has four children. Dr. Smeltzer enjoys woodworking, kids' sports and racquetball. "I didn't choose pediatrics. Pediatrics chose me. I have known since sixth grade I would be a pediatrician. Now, being here is a blast."
Joined OHPA in 1991 Dr. Vosberg earned her Bachelor's degree in 1981 at the University of Notre Dame and her Medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in 1985. She completed her internship in the Department of Pediatrics at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in 1986 and her residency in the Department of Pediatrics at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in 1988 where she was chief resident in 1989. Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Vosberg is also a member of the Davidson County Pediatric Association, the Tennessee Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition to her practice, she is a clinical instructor at Vanderbilt University. She, her husband, and two sons enjoy boating as a family. "I make it a priority to get down on a child's level when discussing health issues. I want them to really understand so they will feel more comfortable."
